THE CORE RULE
Highlight your shoulders AND from your waist or hips down. You are creating balance that your clothes can build in for you.
HIGHLIGHT
Shoulder detail — puckering, shoulder pads, puffed sleeves, off-shoulder, asymmetrical. Then a waist-defining belt or tie. Then something with movement from the hips down.
BALANCE
Straight parallel lines (long straight cardigan + long straight cami + long straight jeans) are your enemy. They reinforce the straight up-and-down and kill your depth.
